The annual BASC Symposium will take place on March 6 and 7, 2025. This year, the theme is “Extreme Events under Climate Change.”

Friday, March 7from 9 am to 5 pm at the David Brower Center on Allston Way in downtown Berkeley (pre-registration required, breakfast and check-in start at 8 am):
Kenneth Kunkel (North Carolina State University): Historical Perspective on Recent Extreme Precipitation Events With a Focus on Helene
Isla Simpson (NCAR): A global discrepancy in near surface humidity trends between Earth System Models and observations
Lucas Vargas-Zeppetello (UC Berkeley): Understanding the climatology of extremely high daily temperatures, and their sensitivity to global warming.
Enrico Zorzetto (New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology): Extreme value statistics in hydrometeorology: challenges and research directions
Poster sessions:
There will also be poster sessions of general interest to atmospheric and climate science researchers. Poster presenters include students, postdocs, and researchers from UC Berkeley and other Bay Area institutions, including LBNL, LLNL, SJSU, Stanford U, UC Davis, UC Santa Cruz, and NASA Ames Research Center.
Registration fee for Friday:
